FOLLOW HOW GLP-1s ARE RESHAPING CULTURE IN REAL TIME

A biweekly sentiment tracker of how weight-loss drugs are reshaping bodies, status and desire — and the assumptions about effort and value that drive entire categories.

For a century, beauty, fashion, luxury, fitness and hospitality have rested on a single assumption: that a slim, fit body is hard to achieve, therefore rare, therefore a marker of status and worth. GLP-1s are making that body accessible to far more people. When one of the foundations of status becomes more available, the things built on top of it start to move: what we aspire to, what we buy and why, what signals success and what carries shame. Slimconomy tracks those shifts as they happen, every two weeks, across lived experience, social conversation and societal imagination.

Methodologies

Body, weight and medication are difficult to discuss plainly. Asking people to describe what they see around them lowers the pressure to perform and reveals the social atmosphere around GLP-1 use.

Before the data arrives, we state what we are looking for. What does not appear is recorded as carefully as what does, so unexpected absences remain part of the finding.

Every question is open. There are no answer options, examples or leading prompts. Themes are coded from what people spontaneously say, including mixed and contradictory implications.

This wave includes 151 US respondents in the GLP-1 cohort. They described the people around them, the conversations they hear and the future they imagine.
